Endodontics is the dental specialty that deals with the nerves of the teeth and root canals are probably the most infamous procedure in dentistry. When a tooth root or nerve becomes infected, the area needs to be removed to prevent an abcess.

Although many people fear root canals, there's no need to worry about pain. Before we start the procedure, the area around the tooth is thoroughly numbed. Dr. Lee will then create a small hole in the tooth to access the infected area, getting rid of the damaged parts and cleaning the canal. A temporary filling is then placed, and after we make sure the root canal therapy has been successful, a permanent filling or crown is placed to ensure beauty and long-term protection.

"Root canal" has become a scary term for dental patients to hear, but the benefits of the procedure and advances in dental technology have made it much less frightening. Local anesthetics and proper pain medication allow the procedure to be performed with little to no pain and while there may be some soreness following the procedure, over the counter painkillers are usually enough to relieve the discomfort. The procedure will also relieve you from pain caused by the infection, allowing you to enjoy all the foods you love without any pain from heat, cold, or biting too hard.
